Responsibilities

  • Process and monitor payments and expenditures
  • Perform the daily processing of accounts payable transactions to ensure that municipal finances are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner
  • Receive and verify invoices and requisitions for goods and services
  • Verify that transactions comply with financial policies and procedures
  • Prepare batches of invoices for data entry
  • Data entry of invoices for payment
  • Manage the weekly check run
  • Record all checks
  • Prepare vendor checks for mailing
  • Prepare manual checks as and when required
  • Maintain a filing system for all financial documents
  • Ensure the confidentiality and security of all financial files

Qualifications

  • Associates Degree (or higher) or equivalent experience in an accounting position
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and credible
  • Accurate and detail oriented
  • Ability to multi task and manage deadlines
  • Possess a solid understanding of the overall operations of an Accounting Department
  • Critical thinking capabilities
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Applications
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
  • Ability to work well alone or with a team, for a high-level output
